Candace Coates, the "Highland Harper," will play at Paula's Stone Cottage Wine Bar in June. Candace reports that the building was home to the Bloggett Memorial Library in the 1960's. Since then, she says, it has been a lawyer's office, and two beauty salons before becoming the wine bar.

Many belated thanks to the Berkshire Book Club in Boston for reading Little Chapel on the River for their book club. I recently spoke to the club by telephone during their meeting - you all were terrific! Always surprises me that readers still come up with new questions about the book, and BBC did not disappoint.

What's This Blog About?
"Is the chapel still around?" That's the first thing readers ask after finishing my book "Little Chapel on the River." about Guinan's Pub & Country Store in Garrison, N.Y.
For a long, sweet while, the answer was "yes." But on January 31, 2008, Guinan's closed after nearly 50 years of defying time and predictions thanks to the generosity of the family who ran it. This blog is a place to share memories and tales about Guinan's or your own "chapel," wherever that may be. It's also a spot dedicated to communities and joints where the increasingly ancient art of face-to-face conversation is practiced and revered.
"The hour is late, the flames are dying down, the embers glow, the glasses require recharging. A guest rises to leave and the spell is broken. Realization dawns that it is another day and we have to face once more the problems of reality. But if I have been able to beguile you for an hour or two into forgetting the pressing problems of today it will have afforded me infinite satisfaction."
